2017 is coming to a close and it has been nothing short of exciting in terms of the Premier League. We have seen the emergence of one of the most impressive teams in Premier League history with Manchester City being unbeaten so far this season. It has also been the season of the resurrecting managers with the likes of Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson giving struggling sides new life and seeing them climb the table. However, there are many things that need to happen in the second half of the season for this season to really be considered one of the best. So these are my New Years resolutions for the Premier League.

Give Homegrown talent game time before the World Cup

There has been many questions asked of the quality of the England squad after the 'Golden generation' all retired and who would the key players be to lead their country forward. Many people have questioned the teams quality due to the lack of regular English starters in the Premier League among the big sides. Over the summer Premier League clubs spent over

£1 billion on players with only 27 of those transfers being English. The Premier League has become a league where the best players are foreign in contrast to places like Spain and Germany where the top teams have a good number of native players in their side. This quality has been transferred to the national teams with Spain and Germany both being considered contenders for Russia 2018 and England falling to 15th in the FIFA World rankings below Italy who didn't even qualify for Russia. We have seen the benefits of using homegrown talent in recent years with the likes of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford breaking through at their clubs and making their mark on the league. Both players made their debuts in Europa League games and earned the chance to play in the Premier League. Their clubs showed support and persistence with these players which ultimately established them as quality players at such a young age. If clubs give youngsters game time it may enable Southgate to find a player that has that x factor which is missing from the England squad at the moment and make the future look brighter for English football.

Control unsettled players

A feature of this season has been unsettled players getting the headlines and causing trouble in their clubs. Players such as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been two high profile players that are unhappy at Arsenal and have caused problems for the manager with them both being Arsenal's key players but not giving their all for the team. A good example of how players should be behaving is Philipe Coutinho who was wanting to force through a move to Barcelona in the summer but was denied his move by Klopp. After this mishap occurred Coutinho has shown great attitude by putting in big performances on the pitch and giving his all for the shirt. Some players actions have caused issues with team cohesion and resulted in changing room bust ups leaving the manager with problems to solve. So I ask for those players that desire a move away that if they are not granted it they should put full effort into their performances and prove why the other club want them and why they earn £160,000 a week. At the end of the day the players will be granted their wish and will leave to their new destination as long as they do their bit for their club like Virgil Van Dijk did when eventually getting his world record move to Liverpool.

Stick By your man

So far this season there have been 6 managerial casualties in the Premier League and this ruthlessness from the board's and directors is becoming a habit. Managers are no longer being given a chance to develop the teams into what they want them to be if they don't get off the mark quickly. An example of this was Frank De Boer who was sacked after 5 games in charge of Crystal Palace and wasn't allowed the time to stamp his style of football on the club. In all fairness to Palace Roy Hodgson has come in and done an excellent job taking them out of the drop zone. It would be nice if managers were given a fair crack of the whip but I feel this is a part of football that is here to stay and is about winning and not building a club into a force to be reckoned with.

We hope these resolutions will be kept which will hopefully make this one of the best Premier League so far but I highly doubt that Manchester City will not win the title from the position they are currently in.
