With Chelsea losing at home to Crystal Palace last week, every non Chelsea supporting premier league fan got their hopes up of a late title charge (not happening). So that inspired me to take a look at the best players to never win or 'bottle' a Premier League title. Here is the starting eleven of the best players to never win the coveted Premier league title.

David James turned out for Liverpool, Portsmouth, Man City, Aston Villa and West Ham. He came closest to a title with Liverpool finishing 3rd in 96 and 98. Over his career he made 169 clean sheets in 572 games meaning he is only behind Petr Cech in regards to clean sheets which is the reason he starts at Goalkeeper for our team.

The legendary French defender played for Chelsea between 1998 and 2004 and managed to win the UEFA super cup and the Fa cup. However for a man that has almost won every major prize in world and European football the Premier league was the one that eludes him with Chelsea coming closest in Desially's final year when they finished 2nd to the Invincibles.

Liverpool fan favourite and Gary Neville's best friend Jamie Carragher is our second center back in our three at the back with Jamie coming close to winning the Premier League on two occasions, finishing 2nd in 02 and 09. He was renowned for his tough tackling and no nonsense defence which led to him becoming a Liverpool and Premier League legend.

Every Liverpool fan's favourite Fin is our last defender. He formed a great partnership with Carragher at the back over the 10 years he spent at Anfield. This obviously means he experienced same highs and lows at Liverpool as Carragher but became a Liverpool cult hero after his solid performances throughout his career including in the 2005 Champions league final.

Le Tissier can be seen as the on that got away for England fans as he only amounted 8 appearances for the three lions. Over his 10 years in the Premier League he managed to score a whopping 101 goals for Southampton and was renowned for his excellent goals such as his iconic goal vs Newcastle in 1993.

The Scouse Spaniard si one of the finest midfielders to grace the Premier league in recent years. Alonso spent 5 years at Anfield and came closest to winning the title in 2009. He then moved on to Real Madrid and reinforced his status as one of the worlds best. He was famous for his prefect passing and long range efforts on goal such as the goal vs Newcastle.

At the heart of the team we have one of the greatest centre midfield pairings in premier League history with Gerrard joining his good friend Alonso. Gerrard is one of the greatest Premier League players of all time and came so very close in the 2013-14 season in which his infamous slip and a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace cost them the title. Over his 17 year career at Liverpool he scored 120 goals from a midfield role and is the 2nd highest scoring midfielder behind Frank Lampard.

More of a central midfielder but for the sake of this team he is going on the left. Gazza is one of the finest English footballers of all time showing his class for club and country. He played for Everton and Middlesbrough in the Premier League as his time with Newcastle and Spurs was in the first division.

The little Italian is one of the all time greats and spent 7 seasons at Chelsea. In his time he scored 59 goals but the closest he came to winning the league was in the 98-99 season when Chelsea finished 3rd.

The Kop hero has played for Liverpool (two spells at Anfield), Man City and Leeds. His most prolific form was in his first spell at Anfield when he scored 120 in 236 games and the closest he came to picking up a winners medal was finishing 3rd four times at Liverpool. He is still a fan favourite at Liverpool and is up there with the best English strikers of the past 20 years.

The flamboyant Frenchman spent time at Newcastle, Spurs, Aston Villa and Everton. The closest Ginola came to a premier league title was in his two seasons at Newcastle finishing 2nd in both seasons. The Frenchman was well known for his skillful play and great finishing but somehow never managed to appear for Les Bleus.

Honourable mentions go to Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane, Ruud Gullit, Gareth Bale, Les Ferdinand, Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez, Brad Friedel and Ledley King.
